Event description

Join us for our Hospice to Hospice Walk which this year takes place on Saturday 12 May 2018. Walk between either Lewis-Manning Hospice, Poole or Oakhaven Hospice, Lymington over 26.2 miles along the beautiful sea front coastal path. For those of you who don't think you can manage 26 miles there is the option to start at Mudeford and walk 13 miles to either hospice.

Full joining instructions for the day will be sent to you well before the event.

This year the event is kindly being sponsored by Hayward Fox Estate Agents.

Am I expected to raise sponsorship?

Yes, please! Your registration fee only covers the cost of event administration and event t-shirt (plus bus transfer if you have selected this option). If you raise an extra:

  • £53 - could fund 1 hour of nursing care in your own home for Oakhaven Hospice patients

  • £98 - could pay for all the delicious home cooked meals for a day that are served to patients in the end of life unit at Lewis-Manning Hospice

  • £180 - could pay for a day's patient care in Day Hospice at both Lewis-Manning and Oakhaven Hospice

  • £500 - could fund 24 hours patient care in the bedded end of life unit of both Hospices

We recommend using Virgin Money Giving for fundraising for this event - the Hospice to Hospice Walk is set up as organised event on Virgin Giving.

Do you provide transport to the start of the walk at Lewis-Manning Hospice or Oakhaven Hospice?

Yes, this year you can pay extra to get a transfer from Oakhaven Hospice to Lewis-Manning Hospice or from Lewis-Manning Hospice to Oakhaven Hospice. This allows you to park your car at one end of the walk back to it at for the end of the walk.

The both buses will depart Oakhaven Hospice and Lewis-Manning Hospice at 7.30am and aim to reach the other hospice for the start of the walk at 8.30am.

Is there a minimum age requirement to enter the event?

Yes, the minimum age is 8 years old and children aged between 8 and 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Are dogs allowed on the walk?

Yes, dogs are permitted on the walk, but please obey local bylaws and keep your dog on a lead where indicated.

Is the route sign posted?

Yes. You are following the costal path but we have marshals at key points to direct you.

Are refreshments provided on route?

Yes there are check in points at Boscombe, Mudeford Quay and Barton on Sea where water is provided & a comfort stop. Plus at Mudeford (the half way point) there are snacks and hot drinks are kindly provided by the Rapid Relief Charity.

How do I cross the water at Mudeford?

Bring your water rings… no not really!! You will gain a discounted price of £1 on presentation of a voucher (included in your pack) courtesy of the Mudeford Ferry Company.

What do I need to wear?

Good, well-worn in walking boots are recommended. Along with a light rucksack to bring waterproofs just in case!

Do I need to keep up with everyone?

No, everyone will walk at their own pace - why not enlist a friend to chat to? The achievement is finishing, it is not at race. If you’re not used to walking we highly recommend that between registering & the day you train & get some miles into your legs.

If I am joining half way at Mudeford what time do I need to be there?

This is to be confirmed but we anticipate mid-morning.

Medals sponsored by PKF Francis Clark Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers.
