Dear Colleague

You have been booked for your Hospital Life Support (HLS) in the Education Centre, QEH, on the date chosen.

From the 1st April 2021, the delivery method for this course has changed. Please see the changes listed below:

Course Duration: The course will now last 3:15 hours. You will have been booked on an AM Session (08:45 - 12:00).

Pre-course preparation: All the theoretical learning will be done via eLearning prior to the course. This includes 3 elements:

  • Immediate Life Support Manual: You might have one of these from previous HLS courses, if this is the case you do not need to collect a new one. However, if a manual is needed, you can still collect one from the Resuscitation Services office.
  • Hospital Life Support Handout: This can be accessed on the OneDrive cloud (info to follow) and is designed to be used as a refresher for the course content. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the ILS Manual.
  • eLearning (detailed instructions on how to access the material will be sent with the booking confirmation): You can access this on the eLearning portal by clicking here and you will find it under the "Resuscitation" tab.

Once in the "Resuscitation Tab" you will find, on the top, several options:

This eLearning is made up of 4 different modules and they should be completed before the course.

Face-2-face session: On your HLS day you will have 2 practical skills stations: ABCDE approach practice and BLS skills stations (see programme).

Assessment: There are 2 assessment for this course:

  • Practical (ABCDE) assessment: This will be carried out as part of your face-2-face session (see programme).
  • NEWS2 Assessment: This is one of the modules on the eLearning package and MUST be completed before attending the course. ​Please note that you will not be able to pass the course if this assessment has not been completed.
