This course will bring family practitioners up to date on the hot topics to watch out for.
Following the case of Birch v Birch [2017] UKSC 53 where are we now when drafting a consent order?
A general case law review of the important cases of 2017/2018 including those to keep an eye on in the Supreme court and Court of Appeal.
The work of the Pension Advisory Group, what are they aiming to achieve, do we need to have a plan when dealing with complex pension cases?
An update on online divorces and the future for family lawyers.
Recent FPR amendments and how they affect the way family lawyers work.

This seminar is aimed at achieving Competency Statement B – Technical Legal Practice: To give an increased knowledge of the subject matter; to update on current issues, case law and statutory provisions and to be able to apply the knowledge gained in the better provision of a service to the client.

Mena will consider:

  • Supreme Court cases to keep an eye on
  • The Pension Advisory Group
  • Online divorces
  • Case law update
  • FPR updates

Speaker: Mena Ruparel is a solicitor, Arbitrator and experienced trainer. She is the Chief Assessor of the Law Society family accreditations and family law Chief Examiner with CILEx. She writes extensively about family law, the Law Society have recently publised the Matrimonial Finance Toolkit and the Unbundling Family Legal Services Toolkit which Mena co-authored with Ursula Rice. She has also co-authored, How to be an Ethical Solicitor, published by Bath Publishing. Mena sits on the Pension Advisory Group.


Please note that this seminar will be held in the Ranmore Suite on the Ground Floor at Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking. Registration is from 1.30pm with tea and coffee. The session will commence at 2.00pm and finish at 5.15pm with a 15 minute break at about 3.30pm for tea.
