About this event

'Arthur looked at his brood, pondering. For in a very real sense they were his brood. He had put them all where they were.’

- Antimacassar City, Guy McCrone

Mr Arthur Moorhouse of Grosvenor Terrace. Determined. Shrewd. A grafter.

Mr James Couper of Holmwood. Perceptive. Driven. A worker.

The former fictional. The latter real. Their stories parallel.

We invite you through the doors of Holmwood to join us on a special guided tour of our house. Learn more about a city somewhat tipsy on it’s own triumph, the art of the public space in Victorian homes, and the real-life family that rose through the ranks to commission what would be regarded as one of Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson’s most iconic designs.

Our Wax Fruit weekend is celebrating the re-publication of Guy McCrone's trilogy of books. First published in the 1940s, it tells the tale of the ambitious Moorhouse family, as they navigate the world of 1870s Glasgow.
