Share house training: an introduction to inclusive theatre-making

Event Details

This session will discuss how theatre-makers can be mindful of inclusion from the start of the creation process, avoiding last minute and often ineffective ‘add-ons’. Sarah Pickthall will explore the importance of building accessibility, inclusion and audience into the development of work and will focus on a few examples of high-quality inclusive theatre practice. The session will include:

  • What is inclusive theatre and what’s stopping you from making it
  • Ideas and forms and funding inclusion accessibility – Creative Case in the making
  • Developing new audiences and ambassadors to champion your inclusive moves
  • What to expect from venues presenting your shows
  • Innovations, technology and best practice in making inclusive work
  • Mini-manifestos and getting your board on board
  • Where to go from now – further research and resources

Sarah has focused her UK and international arts practice on disability and diversity as a call for innovation, representation and inclusion. Sarah has a wealth of experience as a consultant, producer and dramaturge, and supports artists in the creation of inclusive arts projects and performances that challenge and change people's thinking and practice. Sarah was part of the team developing Creative Case for Diversity at Arts Council England.
