The current housing crisis is dire, least of all in one of the poorest boroughs in London, Tower Hamlets, where 47% of children live in poverty. Mould and disrepair plague both council and private rentals, while landlords like Rushanara Ali, Bethnal Green Labour MP, can kick those in need out of their homes whenever they feel like it. These kinds of situations are becoming more frequent than ever. In a borough like Tower Hamlets, with nearly 29,000 people on the waiting list for council housing, many are forced to resort to dishonest renting contracts with landlords and renting companies taking advantage of people in desperate housing situations.
The housing crisis is just one of the many symptoms of the rotten capitalist system. To end the vicious cycle of exploitation and oppression we have to fight for a socialist change in society.
