London has a tradition of building good quality, low cost housing for the working classes. We will be exploring public and philanthropic housing through the streets of Spitalfields and Bethnal Green. The walk will conclude at the Boundary Estate inspired by the socialist architect Owen Fleming in the early 1900s.

Examples will be woven into the story from Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Vienna.

And the question asked: what happened? Why is so much housing now of poor quality, high cost and bland design?
