Event description
Hove Design Day is a one-stop shop to showcase architects and other design experts in Brighton.

About this Event

Hove Design Day is a one-stop shop to showcase architects and other design experts in the area, all waiting to inspire you to make bold changes to your home!

Just pop along to the Cornerstone Community Centre on Saturday 17th October, any time from 10.30am to 3.30pm – the Design Day is completely free and very informal. Architects and other design specialists will be there to talk through your ideas for your home and show you examples of their completed building projects.

It would be good if you could bring with you some photos of your existing property and maybe some plans – the back of an envelope is fine – plus maybe a quick note of any thoughts and inspirations you’ve already had.

You should come away from the Design Day with a good idea of what you could do for the budget that you have in mind, plus contact details of architects and information about how they could work for you.

What makes the Hove Design Day unique? The Design Day is the only showcase for architects in the area – around 15 of them will be there, so that’s a lot of concentrated creativity! They are all based around the Brighton/Hove area, so they have a huge amount of local knowledge and experience of the local planning system.

Architects are all different – some specialise in building conservation, others in new build, others in sustainable architecture. As a potential client, you need to feel that your architect will fulfil your brief and that you are comfortable with them. The Design Day is a great opportunity to meet architects and see who is the best ‘fit’ with you.

Who does the Hove Design Day aim to attract?People who are thinking about their building needs and desires are likely to be particularly interested in the Design Day. And if you’ve ever looked at your home and thought ‘I wonder how difficult/expensive/possible it would be to …’, the Design Day is an ideal opportunity to chat through your ideas with architects.

You’ll get the most out of the Design Day if you’re eager to explore options – through talking to the architects about your home and through looking at their completed work with an eye for ideas for your own project.

Can you explain what the RIBA is and why it is important to be involved? The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) champions better buildings, communities and the environment through architecture and its members. The RIBA is the membership organisation for architects, which provides standards, training and support for members. Choosing an accredited RIBA Chartered Practice will give you peace of mind: they comply with strict criteria which cover insurance, health and safety and quality management. Every practice taking part in Henley Design Day is an RIBA Chartered Practice.

What is the point of employing an architect for a domestic building project?. How much or how little you commission your architect to do is up to you. However small your project and whether you’re building a new building or adapting an existing one, your architect is trained to apply impartial and creative thinking. They will help you to achieve what you want for your project and, if you choose can guide you every step of the way through the design and construction process. They can handle the paperwork and keep the work on track.

Architects can come up with a design to increase your building’s value and propose ways to reduce costs. As well as creativity, they provide value for money. For more information, visit www.architecture.com – and come along to Hove Design Day to meet architects and find out for yourself.
