Learn how to ID specimens of hoverflies with expert Yorkshire naturalist Derek Whiteley.

Join expert Yorkshire naturalist, Derek Whiteley, and sharpen your hoverfly identification skills. Learn the distinguishing features of true flies and how to identify them to species level. No experience or equipment needed!

This is a joint workshop with Yorkshire Naturalists Union and Sorby Natural History Society.

Accessibility

Please note, this workshop will be taking place in the upstairs meeting room of NEYEDC and there is no lift access.

What to bring/wear

Tea/coffee will be provided but please bring your own lunch


Toilets and catering

There are toilets on-site but no catering outlets. There is a Costcutter and a newsagent in Dunnington which is a 15 minute walk or 3 minute drive.


Joining us on the day

Meet at North and East Yorkshire Ecological Data Centre (NEYEDC) Unit 7, Hassacarr Close, Dunnington, York, YO19 5SN.

By Rail: The nearest station is York. You will then need to get a bus or taxi to the offices in Dunnington.

Buses from York: EYMS X46/X47/46 buses depart from York Rail station around every 30 minutes to Dunnington Common Road. Journey time approx 20 minutes, NEYEDC is less than 10 minutes walk from the bus stop. York First Bus Service 10 depart from Rougier Street around every 30 minutes to Dunnington Village centre. Journey time approx 20 minutes, NEYEDC is around 15 minutes walk from the village centre.


Parking

Parking is available on-site.
