Meet the Speakers:

Mya-Rose Craig is a 20-year-old British-Bangladeshi birder, race activist and environmentalist campaigning for equal access to nature, to stop climate change and biodiversity loss, and to ensure global climate justice, all of which she believes are closely interlinked. At age 11 she started the popular blog Birdgirl, and at age 17 she became the youngest person to see half of the birds in the world. In 2020, she received an honorary doctorate in science from the University of Bristol, and is among the youngest people in the UK to receive one. She has published two books, We Have a Dream and her memoir Birdgirl, and her next book Flight is being published this year.

Mia Foulkes is a Science Communicator passionate about understanding why things happen and discovering connections between different fields of study. With a background in Physics and Philosophy, she is the Head of Content at ClimateScience, where she is committed to making complex scientific concepts accessible to everyone. Mia believes education is a powerful tool for change and constantly explores new ways to engage and inspire others.

Gareth Thomas is a biodiversity scientist at the Natural History Museum, with a focus on how biodiversity responds to human activity, such as land-use change and habitat rehabilitation. Gareth’s postdoctoral research has a particular focus on data that drives nature-positive action in the business sector – the PREDICTS project. His work also focuses on applying environmental DNA analysis in understanding how ecosystems respond to disturbances. Alongside his work at the Museum, Gareth is a Research Associate at the University of Essex and a member of the Royal Society of Biology, and has written scientific papers and industry reports.
