Description

Conservatives Party Conference 2017

This event, with John Howell MP, will examine the potential assistance Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) can offer small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and ask how the Industrial Strategy can facilitate this support.

Access to justice is a significant concern for small businesses, who struggle with the extortionate cost and the time consuming nature of settling legal disputes in court. The FSB found that between 2010 and 2015 around £62 billion was tied up in disputes concerning small businesses, giving an idea of the scale of the cost facing SMEs. ADR can provide a cheaper and quicker supplementary alternative to court action for small businesses, but problematically many businesses aren’t aware of its existence
