Overview

Join Sustain to learn how English councils can use their planning powers to protect nature and boost farming through their local plans.

Ahead of the Government’s Planning & Infrastructure Bill, join Sustain and a panel of planning experts to learn how local planning can support the growth of a vibrant and sustainable local food and farming system.

The Government’s Planning & Infrastructure Bill will give developers the license to pollute, increasing pressure on local rivers, nature and the environment. But when national government steps back, local government steps in.

Decisions about food and farming are critical planning issues, yet they are often not considered in local plans, meaning councils are missing a key opportunity to shape local food systems through planning policy.

UK councils are also seeing an increase in the number and complexity of applications for intensive livestock developments. As recent judgements have shown, this is putting councils in legal jeopardy.

Sustain have developed a toolkit to share planning policies that support sustainable farming, while controlling the spread of potentially unlawful factory farms.

Sustain welcomes English local planning authorities to join us on November 13th to learn how they can use their planning powers to protect nature and boost farming through their local plans. We will be joined by councillors and farmers from across the country who will talk about their experiences with the planning system and the potential for unlocking sustainable farming.
