Event description
Do you feel able to make your local place better? Please come and share your local stories and talk with other active citizens in Kirklees.

About this Event

We've all seen over the past year how brilliant the people in our local places are. We believe that working with and alongside citizens is the best way to make the places where we live, work and play better. That’s why we would love you to be part of a pair of upcoming workshops. We'll be asking: How can more people come together to make local places better?

These workshops for Kirklees citizens are an opportunity to meet with other local people to look to the future. It’s a bit of an experiment for us. But what we know for sure is that now, more than ever, we want to work together in our local places.

Please come and share your experiences, listen to other people's stories and make new connections. Together we’ll improve our understanding of how we can measure people’s confidence in their own ability to change things in our local places - to have influence as active citizens.

How to take part

You will take part in two workshop discussions. You can register now for one of these first sessions:

(* sorry, our sessions on 16th, 18th, 20th, 24th, 26th February and 1st March are fully booked . Our waitlist is open if you can't find a place)

We’ll arrange the second session with you later, at a time that’s suitable for you.

The workshops will be online via Zoom video call. They will involve a mixture of activities and small group discussions. It’s a safe environment and everyone will have a chance to talk.

You’ll need a computer or tablet and  internet access to take part. We'll share a simple guide before the session. We can also offer technical help in advance of the workshops if you'd like.

Please let us know if you need some accessibility support (such as live captioning, audio descriptions or large text resources).

About us

The workshops will be run by Kirklees Council’s Democracy team and an organisation called the New Citizenship Project, who are supporting this work.

We’re doing this because we want everyone to feel able to make our local places better. You’re an important part of figuring out how we do that. You’ll be making sure that the voices of citizens are clear in everything we do.
