May 8th 2025 marks 80 years since VE day. On this day the Allied armies accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany's armed forces – ending the Second World War in Europe.

This webinar will support teachers in ensuring that VE Day commemoration in schools is meaningful and memorable, by providing hints, tips and ideas for exploring the local impact of the Second World War in your area.

Daisy Horsley from Historic England’s Heritage Schools programme will provide step by step guidance on researching local soldiers whose names are listed on war memorials. Martin Phillips, also from Historic England’s Heritage Schools programme, will then demonstrate how to explore Historic England’s Archive of aerial photographs to find local evidence of the impact of the Second World War in the years leading up to, and beyond, VE Day.
