Event description

Description

Do you want to make a difference to people living in poverty in Cambridge? Do you want to do more to develop your staff, raise your profile and engage with communities?

Cambridge has the fastest growing economy in the UK, but the city has been identified as the most unequal city in the UK. There is a 10 year gap in life expectancy between the richest and poorest wards in the city.

Come to our free event on 8th November to hear how your business can help support people in Cambridge who are struggling financially. The event will be held from 5pm to 7:30pm at Westminster College in Cambridge.

There will be presentations from the Child Poverty Action Group, The Living Wage Foundation and Cambridge City Council to explore how your employment practices can help to improve local people’s living standards and some potential means to partner with the voluntary and community sector (VCS). Support for the VCS could range from providing your old IT equipment to sharing your business acumen in advising voluntary organisations’ board members. Companies with a presence in local communities are often well-placed to provide effective solutions to challenges specific to their area. In turn this can help enhance your profile and organisational reputation within the business community and the wider city.

This Cambridge City Council event is being held during Living Wage Week, which is a national campaign week aimed at celebrating employers that pay the real Living Wage. The real Living Wage is the only wage independently calculated to reflect real living costs. At the event you can find out more about Living Wage accreditation with the Living Wage Foundation and how this could benefit your business in a variety of ways, such as:

  • Increasing motivation and retention rates for staff
  • Differentiating yourselves from others in your industry
  • Improving relationships between managers and staff

There will also be plenty of opportunity for you to network with other businesses attending the event, including some employers accredited with the Living Wage Foundation.

Places will be limited and offered on a first-come-first-served basis. We look forward to seeing you there!
