Sunday 23rd June. Film and discussion, 4.30pm–6pm, followed by a drinks reception, 6pm-8pm.

Central Belfast location

With the prospect of legislative change appearing ever closer, Alliance for Choice NI, Doctors for Choice UK, and bpas, invite clinicians attending the BMA ARM and medical students to this event to discuss the next steps for abortion law reform in Northern Ireland, and how healthcare professionals can shape proposals to ensure all women are able to access safe, legal, funded abortion care across the island of Ireland.

The event will open with a short film, Kind to Women, featuring interviews with clinicians who paved the way for the 1967 Abortion Act in Great Britain, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A. After the event, all are welcome to join the drinks reception.

Speakers include:

  • Emma Campbell, Co-Chair of Alliance for Choice, Clinicians and abortion law reform: the role they played in the 1960s and the role they play today
  • Ciara McHugh, Midwife, Midwifery and abortion: Reflections on providing maternity care in England and Northern Ireland
  • Dr Marion Dyer, GP and key campaigner for Repeal the Eighth, Establishing an abortion service in the Republic of Ireland: the lessons we can learn
  • Dr Jayne Kavanagh, Doctors for Choice UK, Regulation vs Legislation: how abortion services would be governed to ensure safe, woman-centred care
