How custom and self build can deliver affordable housing
Overview
Building on our previous masterclasses looking at how custom and self build (CSB) can deliver affordable housing, this session looks to reflect on successful projects delivered to date, the links with community led housing, hearing from experts in this field and exploring potential lessons to be learnt from abroad.
We know that custom and self build housing can play a major part in delivering much needed housing in the UK, including meeting the need for affordable housing. Affordable CSB can help deliver sustainable and cohesive communities providing a range of benefits to communities, landowners, developers and local authorities.
The delivery of affordable CSB is not straightforward, involves a number of key players and being delivered through a wide range of routes. A brief review of recent research undertaken by the Task Force will try to explore some common themes.
We will hear from frontline community led housing practitioners as to how co-operative housing groups and community land trusts can help in the delivery of affordable CSB.
Finally, we will briefly consider how the delivery of CSB differs between the UK and the Netherlands, what structural differences exist, and what, if any, approaches we could adopt here to improve delivery.
Early booking is highly recommended for our popular masterclass sessions.
