Event description

Description

“As educators we must be concerned with "getting on" not just " getting in" whether that is into and through higher education or moving from higher education in to meaningful careers. For the latter, we need to connect with and understand graduate development as well as graduate recruitment. The training from Rebecca was set up for this very reason and the feedback from our staff was excellent.”

Bob Gilworth, Director, The Careers Group

This interactive and lively session will lift the lid on all things graduate development, rather than graduate recruitment. We will explore how training schemes are structured, what they typically contain and how they are delivered. Critically we will look at the skills that graduate developers, who work with graduates for the next 2-3 years, reasonably expect graduates to arrive with and those they will need to work on.

By understanding both the common development gaps and development methodologies you will be able to:

  • Develop innovative career development activities that focus on the nuanced skills that employers value and will give your students a competitive advantage.
  • Influence graduate attribute frameworks and course design to reflect these requirements.
  • Engage employers more effectively in the skills agenda by understanding their challenges.
  • Better advise students and graduates on the differences in the personal development they will experience in different sectors and sizes of employers.
  • Better support SMEs and employers who are new to graduate recruitment and looking for advice beyond recruitment.
  • Develop more meaningful and informed relationships with your business contacts beyond graduate recruiters.

The course is aimed at Careers, Employability and Placement Managers, Employer Engagement professionals, Careers Advisers and Placement Officers.

This course will be delivered by Rebecca Fielding – Managing Director, Gradconsult

Rebecca has recruited and developed thousands of people for some of the UK’s biggest names (including Aon, the Co-operative Group and Sheffield Hallam University) since 2001. Her most recent corporate roles were as Talent Manager for the UK&I with HJ Heinz and as the Head of Leadership and Culture with Asda. Rebecca was a Director with the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) for six years, sat on the AGCAS board, has won national awards for her work, judged industry awards and sat on several careers advisory bodies. Since establishing Gradconsult in 2012 the business has worked with over 30% of the UK’s Universities, over 300 SMEs and corporate employers across a variety of sectors. Rebecca is also an appointed Associate/Trainer for both AGCAS and AGR.
