Are you worried about the risk of your teen or pre-teen being exposed to inappropriate images and information?
Would you like to find out how to talk with your child about difficult subjects, like pornography and consent?
Do you want to know how to help your young person to keep themselves safe, online or when they are out and about?
These are big questions.
This is such a challenge for parents because these issues cannot be managed by simply installing parental controls on devices. We have to be able to speak with our children to discuss what risks they may face and what they can do to keep themselves safe.
So many parents tell us how they find these types of discussion:
- embarrassing
- awkward
- ones they want to avoid
- ones their child wants to avoid
- hard to begin
- difficult to arrange so no-one else hears
This can be so tricky to manage.
This online session will give you practical solutions and help you to understand:
- how to engage with your children and encourage critical thinking skills by helping them to understand what they are seeing and reading.
- how to make it safe for young people to come to us if they are in trouble.
- ways to open up discussions about embarrassing and taboo subjects.
- what to say when things go wrong.
- how to help your young person to be able to keep themselves safe, now and in the future.
This interactive session and popular session is part of the Supporting Links Bitesize Parenting Collection; this one hour event will take place via Zoom and will include a Q&A.
Previous attendees have said:
"It’s an eye-opener for me. Lots of important conversations to have."
"I hope these short workshops will be repeated throughout the year as they are perfect after a long day at work"
The workshop is open to all parents and carers of children from Year 5 upwards at Simon Balle School. The event is being subsidised by the school in order to keep the cost low for all parents and to make this as accessible as possible for the school community.
There are a limited number of tickets which will be released on a first come first served basis.
