Event description

Description

While entrance is free, donations are appreciated (£2 per person suggested) and can be made at the event. Pizza, ice-cream and a drink will be provided, for which there will be a charge of £15 on the door. Any additional food or drink you may purchase at Al Borgo will be at your own cost.

After last year’s “How Round is your Pizza?” we turn to things ecological …

Andy White is Professor of Maths who specialises in mathematical modelling. This after-supper talk will discuss the history of the red squirrel's fight for survival – from its sole dominance in the UK in the 19th century, to its exclusion by the dreaded grey squirrel. His early work modelling the “Impacts of climate change on natural vegetation” formed part of the UK Government’s contribution to the Kyoto, Buenos Aires and Bonn Climate Conventions. This presentation will de-mystify the modelling of complex ecological systems, explain the plight of the red squirrel and possibly allow you to taste the subject of Andy’s study.
