As the world becomes ever more digitally connected, charities must keep up to remain relevant. In this digital age, data has become a new currency. Data can be used to inform tailor services, build stronger relationships with supporters and beneficiaries, and ensure charities are responsive to the needs and assets of communities. But many charities are struggling to understand their role, and to deal with challenges around consent - not least with the new General Data Protection Regulation coming into effect in May 2018.

But in an era where so many people post information about their lives on line, should charities be limiting the possibilities offered by data? Or should charities be the leaders in ensuring that all data collected from our service users has been gathered by consent, thus empowering service users?
