About this event
The way we relate to other people, whether that be with friends, family, romantic partners, colleagues, your server at a restaurant, all depend on our ability to relate to and socialise with others.
Some people seem to naturally get on with everyone, whilst others have to learn these social skills. It all depends on our personalities and upbringing, but what is universal across all people is that the quality of our relationships depends on the quality of how we relate to others.
In this workshop, we'll look at some important elements of relationships:
- how you and your partner perceive and deal with closeness and emotional intimacy.
- ability to communicate your emotions and needs, and listen to and understand the emotions and needs of their partners.
- how we respond to conflict.
- expectations about your partner and the relationship.
Rather than giving you a lecture on the theory of the above, this workshop will be highly practical and you'll learn more about yourself, your patterns and your behaviour.
Why is embodiment important in relationships?
You can’t feel another person if you don’t feel what’s happening in your body. How we feel another person is through paying attention and recognising the sensations in our body. We feel our own body in response to the other body, we feel our own emotions in response to their emotions. That feedback mechanism gets disrupted if you are not sensitive. Responsiveness within yourself translates to responsiveness to outside yourself.
