About this Event

Mike Rouse helped deliver a stunning result in Redditch during the 2017 General Election - a small swing to the Conservatives, when surrounding seats saw swings away. Yet, in Redditch, the candidate was brand new and totally unknown to the town; there was a local hotbed issue around the hospital; and the well-known issues with the national campaign.

Following the election Mike has visited a number of constituencies around the country, spoken at a conference in London after Gavin Barwell (Theresa May's new Chief of Staff) and has spoken to a lot of people - including senior figures in CCHQ, regional figures, campaign managers and ordinary members, activists and elected representatives.

Everyone in the Conservative Party understands that Facebook influenced the outcome of the 2017 General Election. There was not enough rebuttal, the Tory attack was too personal, and Labour had a far slicker campaign online.

This all-day seminar will be broken into two parts: a morning of theory, analysis and inspiration from a range of speakers, followed by an afternoon of practical hands-on workshops.

The Agenda

Morning Session

9:00am: Coffee and registration
9:30am: Introduction by Brian Tustain, Area Chairman
10:00am: Rapid rebuttal and third party campaigners
10:30am: Content generation and joined-up approach
11:30am: Case studies and analysis
12:30pm: Lunch

Afternoon Session

1:30pm: Workshops: Split into groups to cover one of the following areas:

  1. Administration of multiple pages, billing and targeting from VoteSource data for campaign managers and agents
  2. Video and other content generation for candidates

3:30pm: Managing social media and engagement for incumbents
4:00pm: Getting your colleagues on board and engaged
4:15pm: Your ideas and questions
4:30pm: Close

What you will get

  • You will learn how third parties can help your campaign efforts
  • We will show you how decentralisation can work effectively for you and the Party
  • You'll learn how to rebut arguments online effectively without getting dragged into long running arguments
  • Our expert guest speaker from a major drinks brand (also a top Councillor in London) will show you what kinds of content to create, how to create it and how to approach things in a joined up way
  • We will look at all social media, not just Twitter and Facebook, and how you can utilise these platforms through a strategy-led approach

Then, in the afternoon session you will either walk away with the practical skills to set up Facebook Business Management tools for your association so you can manage multiple campaigns, councillors and causes;

Or, as a candidate/incumbent, you will walk away with a digital copy of a video we will produce in the workshops in front of a screen. This video can be a campaign message, a welcome video or your take on a local issue. We'll coach you on your appearance and mannerisms, style and speech along with the substance of your message. We'll then give you everything you need to get your video onto Facebook.

Support after the event

MRC will provide direct one-to-one support for up to 2 hours to each delegate who attends this event - helping you to get up and running effectively.
