Event description

Description

On May 25 2018, a new set of Data Protection Legislation becomes enforceable - the General Data Protection Regulations or GDPR.

It doesn't matter what size or type of business you are, if you are hold or process personal data then you will need to comply. And if you think that you don't have any personal data, then you would be wrong! It includes the obvious things like names, address, phone numbers as well as credit card information, CCTV footage, IP address, cookies, bank details, photos, HMRC information ....basically anything that you be used to identify an individual. It covers the information that you hold for both customers and staff, as well as suppliers......

If you fail to comply the fines that are available to the ICO are up to a maximum of E20 MILLION EUROS or £17 MILLION! Not to mention the poor publicity and reputational damage, in effect it could close your business. Everybody is affected, even if you operate overseas you will need to make changes.

Every business that you deal with directly or indirectly should also comply... what do they do with your information? And businesses won't be dealing with you, if you don't comply - why would they damage their own reputation? How would you feel if your information was used to damage the reputation of another business or their personal information was stolen, and yours was amongst it? How would you feel if a member of your family was affected? Still not convinced....92 year poppy seller, Olive Cook committed suicide after parting with £100,000 to charities who would call her and write to her asking for charity because they had her personal information and used it detrimentally.

Not sure that your personal information is vulnerable, the case with Facebook and Cambridge Analytica is growing arms and legs .....29 other companies are now under investigation by the ICO, and they may not all be big companies. Small companies are more likely to be vulnerable to hacking and viruses and not securing personal information well enough. It costs just £850 on the dark web to buy someone else's identity - that includes a passport, drivers licence, NI number etc.....Nobody likes to consider that there are people around them that do this - but there are - GDPR is about putting protections in place to secure your information and that of the people that you deal with.

GDPR is not voluntary, its mandatory...there isn't long to go. Attend my workshop to understand the changes that you need to make in your business......

I will take you on a journey to understanding what touch points there are in your business and steps that you need to take to comply with the legislative changes.

What will I learn?

This workshop is designed to help small business owners understand the impact that the Data Protection changes will have. Designed as an interactive workshop, by the end you will have an understanding of:

  • The changes from Data Protection to General Data Protection Regulations
  • What is Data and the different types
  • Understand the key principles of GDPR
  • Understand the rights of Data Subjects
  • The role of the Information Commissioners Office (ICO)

This workshop is designed to be interactive, and so that you leave with some real tangible steps to take in your business, I would encourage delegates to bring with them a list of the data types that you have and use in your business.

SPACE IS LIMITED SO BOOK EARLY

This is not a small subject so I would appreciate delegates arriving at least 15 minutes before the start time. Tea/Coffee and water will be provided.
