Event description

Description

Supporting BME leaders in Nottingham and its regions.

In this next seminar for the Nottingham Common Cause Network you get to step into the position of Funder and dispense approx £1000 for `development activities'. Not only will you decide who and what the money is spent on, but you will also decide how you will decide. Confused? Come along for what promises to be a fun, unique, but also educational event.

Being the Funder - assessing choices, dispensing money, deciding which project(s) will get the go-ahead, and which will not - many would think is a marvellous and fantastical position to be in. Except, of course, along with the power to decide, comes responsibility. How will you ensure that the money is well spent? What is `value for money'? How will you ensure that the money is spent within given guidelines? Within given timelines? To benefit a particular cause or need?

You will need to decide what you are trying to achieve by spending this money. What will be your decision-making process? Will you ask for a budget from the beneficiary(ies)? And if so, how detailed? Will you require a statement of intent? Completed application forms? Will you put in place a monitoring procedure? A financial procedure or protocol? Will you insist on a final report? And who will liaise with and be responsible to Runnymede to ensure the money is spent in the way it is decided? As with many funding issues, maybe getting the money is just the very beginning of the journey.

PLEASE NOTE

You will need to be registered with the Nottingham Network to participate in this seminar. If you have not already, please complete your registration form here:

What is Common Cause Nottingham Network?

The Runnymede Trust is piloting a support network for Black and Minority-Ethnic (BME) individuals and groups (and/or for People of Colour) who are actively leading and developing their own projects and ideas, or founding their own organisations.

Join the Nottingham Common Cause to:

  • Gain clarity about your project or idea with peer group feedback and guidance.

  • Define and take those smaller `next steps' necessary to develop your project or idea.

  • Improve your research, organisation and presentation skills.

Learn more about yourself as you take on a leadership role. The research and development stage of any new venture can be frustrating, demoralising and unpredictable. The Network offers a safe way for you, as an independent, self-directed person or group, to test your thinking, present your ideas and activate your plans with peers who are just like you, and who will both challenge and support you.

For participants travelling into Nottingham from outside the city, we can support you with travel costs. Please enquire. Please talk to us, too, about any support or access needs you may have. We cannot guarantee we can always help or resolve these, but we will endeavour to do all that we can to enable you to attend.
