How to be a great leader – leadership for all career stages

Birbkeck’s Dr Vanessa Iwowo will deliver this Astrea session on leadership. She will look at:
- What leadership really is
- Learning to recognise the leadership qualities you already have and to see yourself as a leader
- Empowering yourself to lead where you are – at every stage of your career
- Finding your own leadership style
Whether you aspire to be a CEO, a manager or to develop leadership skills for activities outside of work, this session will help you to understand better what it means to be a successful leader and how to recognise and build on your skills in this area.
Dr Vanessa Iwowo
Dr Iwowo joined Birkbeck’s Department of Organizational Psychology in January 2017. She is an award-winning management scholar whose research focuses on the dynamics and processes, the interactions as well as the power relationships through which knowledge is generated and disseminated in the fields of management development and education. Before joining Birkbeck, Vanessa taught Leadership and Decision Sciences at LSE and previously at the Centre for Leadership Studies, University of Exeter Business School, from where she also received her PhD in Leadership Studies.
Leadership in action
From 3pm-3:30pm we will hear from a panel of Birkbeck women, who will reflect on how they have implemented leadership learning in their own professional journeys, and about the impact this has had.The session will end with refreshments and networking.
