Event description

Description

Enjoy an in depth exploration of how to nourish and respect the central axis of your body and being. The health, strength and mobility of your spine is important not just for physical health but also in terms of our overall sense of wellbeing. Together with providing central support for the body, the spine is also considered to be the very basis of our individual consciousness. Close to the spine runs the central energy channel or nadi which is considered to be the pathway through which individual consciousness ultimately unites with its source.

You will explore what you can do to support the health of the spine moving from the physical to more subtle levels. When the spine is aligned, the force of gravity flows through it with ease. If the spinal curves are offset through habit or postural tendency, gravity becomes a pressure that can create tension and imbalance in the muscles and ligaments. We will take an in depth look at how spinal alignment can be improved through asana, how the other structures and muscles of the body affect that alignment and how to rebalance those muscles and structures in order to cultivate more support.

The workshop will also include pranayama (breath work) that centres on the spine and will end with a mantra yoga meditation.

Suitable for all levels of experience.

About the Teacher:

Amy was first drawn to yoga as a teenager while on the way to her dance training when she accidentally stepped into the wrong room and attended a yoga class instead. She was struck by the way the class had made her feel and so continued to discover and learn about the practices of yoga for the next 17 years.

Having had injuries in her early teens, Amy experienced the healing power of yoga and how it allowed her to move beyond perceived limitations. She has been fortunate to have many great teachers over the years including, Krishnaa Devi who was a senior student of B.K.S Iyengar, Swami Saradananda, Elena Voyce PhD and teachers of the Himalayan tradition both in London and in India.

She is a Yoga Alliance 200 hour, British Wheel of Yoga Accredited and Therapeutic Yoga Teacher and teaches Hatha, flow, restorative and therapeutic yoga and meditation. She has shared the transformational practices of yoga with groups in community centres, hospitals, schools, company offices and yoga studios across London and has taught many private one to one students from all walks of life.

She teaches with a strong focus on healthy alignment: Alignment of the body, action, energy, mind and heart which allows for deeper, inner awareness to unfold. Her classes incorporate creativity and precision, helping students to retrain habitual patterns, release tension and cultivate healthy body usage for the long term, together with compassion and respect for individual needs, so that their yoga journey is safe as well as transformational
