For those wanting to become prize winning DCTs - an opportunity to win some loupes and get published with the BDA!

About this Event

We are really excited to announce a fantastic event for those considering Dental Core Training application or are currently a Dental Core Trainee.

In this event our Primary Care ACF - Amaar Hassan and Hans Antov - ACF/StR in Orthodontics at LUDH will give their insight into how to go about DCT application as well as launching a Poster Prize competition which will focus around Audit.

The prize winner will receive a pair of loupes courtesy of MI Healthcare and there is also opportunity to be published with the BDA - a great addition to the CV!

Audience:

Anyone is invited to attend but those particularly suited may be final year dental students, DFTs and DCTs

Aims and outcomes:

• Introductions in research, audit, clinical governance and quality improvement

• To gain a better chance of being a full rounded candidate for further training/interviews for speciality training

• Opportunities for portfolio development and CV building (tailored for speciality training posts such as orthodontics and academic posts)

• Improve confidence in presenting posters and oral presentations

About the speakers -

Amaar Hassan

BSc BDS MJDF RCS (Eng) PGCTLCP FHEA

Clinical

I have been five years qualified and working as a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Academic Clinical Fellow (ACF) in Primary Care. My time is protected for research alongside working in practice. Prior to this I was a DCT2 in orthodontics, oral surgery, IV sedation and OMFS in Scotland and DCT1 OMFS at Hull. I have also worked in community dentistry which included assessment and treatment of special care/paediatric patients, prison dentistry.

Academic

I was nominated for the Mary Diguid Memorial Prize and Birkenhead Medical Society Audit Prize for my DFT audit and won first prize for an audit during my time as a DCT. I have delivered 2 oral presentations at national conferences and one at internationally. I have had three publications in peer-review journals and two letters to the BDJ published. I have also been involved in research during my first degree, Biochemistry.

I have also completed 2 Post-graduate certificates and currently undertaking an MSc in Public Health

Management/Leadership

I am current fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a rep for the Young Dentist Committee with the BDA; I am actively involved in improving standards and being a voice for young dentists. My particular interests are for hospital dental services, ethics and education and I am also the representative young dentist for Health Education England Advancing Dental Care project. I am an editor for the Young Dentist Committee newsletter and have written several articles and blogs for the BDA.

Hans Antov

MChD/BChD, MFDS RCSG

Clinical

Following graduation I undertook a two year training scheme combining DCT1 in restorative/paediatric dentistry with foundation training. Subseqeuntly I went on to complete a DCT2 year in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Wakefield. I am now an ACF/StR in orthodontics at Liverpool Dental Hospital.

Academic

I have published four papers in the International endodontic journal, British dental Journal, British OMFS journal and the BOS Clinical effectiveness bulletin. I have presented nationally and internationally, and won several prizes for cases and presentations.
