Description

‘How to Build a Girl’ - A Creative Workshop to Promote Confidence & Self-Esteem for 11-14 year old girls

This workshop invites girls to explore issues such as body positivity through a number of games and art activities. There will be opportunities to work creatively and to review negative stereotypes about girls in the media. Time will be spent building upon existing strengths and enhancing confidence, both individually and as a group.

Young people in the UK are reporting increased feelings of loneliness, isolation, bullying, anxiety, stress and depression (Childline, 2016; NSPCC, 2017). Essential topics within education such as body confidence have a direct impact on wellbeing. Research found that 76% of young people felt more positive about themselves as a result of learning about body confidence (Somebody Like Me, 2017).

Aims:

  • To promote emotional wellbeing, enhance self-esteem, self worth and confidence through creative art making.
  • To encourage decision making through reflection
  • To promote critical thinking
  • To empower young people to nurture their natural abilities and be able to express their needs and concerns.
  • To enhance social and communication skills as well as promote team building.

This workshop is co-facilitated by Mary Stephanou, Art Psychotherapist, and Emerciana Desouza, Therapeutic Arts Practitioner.
