How to Change Mindsets and Coach for Success
Thu 31 March 2016, 11:00 – 16:00 BST
This four-hour workshop is an introduction to the Coaching Skillset used by Master Coaches. The workshop is mainly experiential and it demonstrates, using small group exercises, the advantages of a co-active coaching style compared to other people development interventions such as telling, teaching, training, mentoring or counselling.
You will be shown some of the main 'tools' from a professional coach’s toolkit and you’ll practise these skills throughout the workshop with other members of the group. Sometimes there is an opportunity for participants to observe a HOT-SEAT coaching session where the tutor demonstrates the skills in real-time.
Why you should attend
Coaching techniques are a set of skills enabling Leaders to enhance their ability to motivate and nurture others. If you think you are not a leader think again. Obviously a Business Owner or Director is a Leader but so too is a good manager. More important still that a parent is a leader and these skills are very effective to help children develop when they don’t like being told what to do.
The skills learnt on this course will help you to help others (but also to help yourself):
• Become clearer about aspects of career or life
• Become clearer about direction, vision or goals
• Overcome the ‘blocks’ that are preventing moving forward
• Make effective ‘decisions’
• TAKE ACTION (coaching is action-orientated)
As human beings, we simply do NOT respond well to being told what to do (and so we don’t like ‘advice’). “If I were you I’d …” is a real turn off, as is “Why don’t you…” We all need to feel that we have choices and that we have the freedom to choose.
Coaching is a process that enables you to help others make their own developmental decisions. To help others find their purpose, passion and direction; to take those important first few steps and then move confidently toward an envisaged outcome or destination. Coaching is a process that helps people bridge the gap between where they are now and where they want to be. As a Leader, you want people to be able to bridge this gap for themselves. To help people see that it is within their own power and control to achieve success. Coaching embraces a process of logical steps, on-going support, interest and encouragement to achieve the desired outcomes.
Coaching is NOT about giving advice or suggesting solutions. Coaching assumes that it is within every person to find their own solutions but that they often need encouragement, persistence and support to achieve this.
As well as for Parents and Leaders, this workshop is also suitable for anyone considering a new career direction and wanting to know if ‘coaching' should be part of their personal development awareness going forward toward and helping with forging a new career direction.
Your Tutor: Barry Mapp is the Innovation Coach. Barry runs workshops on a range of personal development topics and has taught Coaching Skills for Leaders since 2003.
