Learn how to modify your speech so that non-Anglophones find you easier to understand, but without sounding patronising.
About this event
Clients who are not native English speaking require a different communication style, but this isn't easy to achieve. If you slow down more than is required, or alter your speech too much, your client can feel patronised. On the other hand if you speak at natural speed, using all the same words as usual, it will sound like a bewildering stream of noise. This training by English Unlocked enables staff to modify their speaking style in a way that’s just right for each client.
Here are some of the things you will learn-
- How to declutter your speech
- The importance of clear word boundaries
- The value of silence
- A more intentional use of facial expressions, gestures and body language
- Why phrasal verbs confuse non native English speakers, and how to spot them.
- The problem with using idioms and metaphors
- How to give your listener the processing time they need
- When to rephrase, and when it's better not to.
This interactive webinar lasts two hours and the course presenter is Shelley Purchon, director of English Unlocked.
