About this event

The OfS is holding a seminar day on how to complete the Higher Education Students Early Statistics (HESES) survey 2019-20 (HESES19) survey.

This event is for providers that are registered, or have applied to be registered, with the OfS in the Approved (fee cap) category.

The seminar with cover:

• an introduction to HESES and how the OfS uses HESES data to calculate funding;

• OfS funding rules and definitions;

• how to complete the HESES workbook;

• the HESES data verification process.

The event will also provide hands-on training in completing the your HESES19 data return.

Delegates need no previous knowledge of the HESES return to attend, but we recommend that they know about the types of higher education courses at their provider (for example, how and when they are delivered), as well as their provider’s data collection systems. We also recommend that delegates read our Guide to Funding 2019-20 before they attend.

Intended audience

This workshop is a beginners’ session for people who will be completing HESES for the first time in 2019-20, or those who need a back-to-basics introduction. People who have previously completed HESES should bear in mind that the workshop will be aimed at those with no prior experience.

This workshop is suitable for all providers, including further education and sixth form colleges and academies.

Whilst a laptop (or similar) is not required, delegates may choose to bring their own devices to work through practical exercises; however, paper copies and examples will be provided on the day. Please note that the venue cannot guarantee charging points for all delegates.

Changes to HESES19

“Data collection to inform funding for 2020-21: Notification of changes” (OfS 2019.27) was published on 9 July 2017, and has provided early notification of changes that we intend to make to the HESES data collection for 2019. The publication has sought feedback from providers on a number of these changes; we will be responding to this feedback in August.

We do not intend to hold a training session specifically on the changes to HESES in the seminar. We intend to host a webinar on these changes in mid-September.

Venue

The HESES19 beginners’ workshop will be held at Friends House, London, NW1 2BJ. Coffee from 9.30am and finish by 4.00pm. We welcome up to two delegates per provider. Places will be assigned on a first come first served basis.

There is no charge for attending.
