What is it?

Sharing your social impact through storytelling, or having the most successful crowdfunding campaign will include video. Projects with a video component have up to 50% better engagement. Because videos are displayed prominently on the crowd funding page or a main feature on your website and an important part of your social media campaigns. Videos are the first thing potential backers will see, and pressing Play is the first logical step for a user to take.

Who is it for?

This workshop is only for Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole based artists, makers and creatives.

What will you go away with?

In this workshop you will learn the planning and basic functions to create your own video to aid your social impact and/or fundraising.

• Introducing ‘The opportunity’

We will cover:

What is good content for your crowdfunding video.

Equipment & set up- mobile phone, iPad, apps, tripods, steady cams.

Set up using Apps. Audio. Angles and lights.


We will shoot film with the native apps on our devices or cameras. If possible, please try to have a play with the inbuilt app before you come to the course.


iPhone/iPad: iMovie. This usually comes with later models of the iPhone. If not, please download it from the Apple store before you arrive.

Android: PowerDirector (or KineMaster if you already have it). Please download it from your Android store of Google Play before you arrive.

Who is speaking?

Bob Snarey and Nicki Fitz-Gerald

Bob specialises in video and live streaming and is passionate about businesses find attention grabbing ideas and sharing them through video. He has been actively involved with photography and video on behalf of state broadcasters in the UK, Sweden and Southern Africa for over 25 years. In November 2017 Bob was invited to speak at Google to 250 charities about smartphone video.

Nicki is an artist, video maker and photographer. Nicki teaches, speaks and writes about using smartphones for video, photography and art. Nicki has delivered keynote speeches and workshops at the Mobile journalism conference in Ireland for the past three years where she teaches professional journalists. Nicki is also delivering workshops for charities demonstrating how they can make a great video on little or no budget.

What to bring

Please bring a fully charged smartphone or tablet with adequate space available. If possible please download the free apps mentioned above beforehand. You may also bring video cams and DSLRs if you have them and your laptop.

If you are a Sole Trader please bring your Unique Tax Reference Number, if you own a registered company/organisation please bring your registration number.

How to book

  • Spaces are limited, only one place available per business

  • If you book and find that you are unable to attend, please cancel your ticket as soon as possible and at least 48 hours prior to the workshop. This allows us to release the booking to others that are on a waiting list
