How To: Design Heritage Tours and Trails For Your Project

By Heritage Network
Online event

Overview

A practical online workshop about creating accessible, engaging tours of your site, building, or local area.

About the Workshop

Would you like to take people on tours of your site, project, or local area in 2026?

This practical workshop, hosted by the Heritage Network, will guide participants through the key steps involved in creating their own tours—whether focused on a specific building, site, or wider area. Ideal for anyone preparing to develop tours and trails, whether for local communities, decision-makers, or funders, this session will combine logistical know-how with creative guidance.

You will learn how to plan and deliver a well-structured tour, covering essential practical considerations such as health and safety, accessibility, environmental conditions, group size, and participant comfort.

Alongside the logistics, the workshop will explore the creative process of tour design: developing a clear focus or theme, conducting effective research, selecting supporting images or props, and shaping your content to suit the needs and interests of your target audience.

Participants will leave with practical, immediately applicable tools to help them design and deliver confident, engaging and well-considered tours.
