How to Embed Context, Diversity and EDI in Relationship 2.0 Practice
Overview
This event invites you to witness a reimagining of the relationship (v2.0), and consequently, of training and practice, one that is beautifully fairer, more expansive, stronger, and more representative by design for the whole population. Sometimes, solutions and answers lie in the basics. It’s all in the basics.
The event explores what this relationship means within psychology and helping cultures. What is its relational scope (Ahmad, 2026)? More importantly, how can we harmoniously address the various gaps within foundational curricula and practice, and what are the implications for social change?
A solution will be presented, one that, if adopted mainstream by the profession, addresses these gaps in a harmonious way within the fields of helping and therapy, without taking away from what we already have.
This solution is based on five years of research, training, and practice and is based on the helping curriculum outlined in A New Introduction to Counselling and Psychotherapy (Routledge Books) (2026). A New Introduction to Counselling and Psychotherapy is a groundbreaking and practical textbook that offers a comprehensive entry into self-development, theory, skills, practice, and advocacy. This first-of-its-kind resource integrates, as required by SCoPEd competencies, dimensions context, difference and diversity, often overlooked in mainstream teaching and practice, including social and personal context, culture, identity, diversity, neurodiversity, embodiment, worldviews and beliefs, power dynamics, intersectionality, and trauma- and harm-informed approaches.
