Interested in supporting your local repair movement? As the repair movement grows, we're looking for new volunteers to join our community. Join us for a morning session at the Barbican Centre to find out how you can get involved!

This community event is a collaboration between the Barbican Centre, The Restart Project and Islington Fixers (a local community repair group). This event will take place in Level G Studio next to the cafe (enter via Silk St or Lakeside).

What to expect:

  1. Learn about community repair events and how they work/are organised, including potential volunteering opportunities you could get involved in locally. Repair events, including Restart Parties and Repair Cafes are pop-up events that prevent e-waste by helping people fix their own electronics. Incredible volunteers help make this magic happen!
  2. Learn how to repair the most common electrical items brought to community repair events. You'll be guided by our experienced electrical fixers (Restarters) and will work as part of a team to diagnose, take apart and hopefully fix items! All skill levels are welcome.
  3. Optional: Shadow experienced electrical repairers at our Barbican Repair Cafe in the afternoon (13:00-16:00).This is the perfect opportunity to experience the buzz of community repair and get a flavour for what you could be involved in! Please register your interest when purchasing a free ticket.

Please note:

  • You must book a ticket to attend as there is limited space. There is a waitlist and we will be in touch should a ticket free up.
  • Not been able to get a ticket? Email london@therestartproject.org to express interest in future How To Fix sessions and volunteering opportunities.
  • The session is completely free, all we ask is that you engage with the movement after it. This may be by attending a repair event as a volunteer to hone your skills and build confidence (supported by experienced fixers) or by building a repair group of your own!
  • If there is a large waitlist for this event, we will prioritise tickets for people who live within the borough. We will organise other events like this and will get in touch with anyone on the waitlist that cannot get a ticket.
  • Under 18s are welcome to attend, but must book a ticket and be accompanied by a parent/ guardian
  • By booking a ticket, you consent to your answers being used by The Restart Project for reporting purposes. Your personal information will not be included in any reporting- any information will be reported anonymously. However, we may use your name and email address to contact you for follow-up (e.g. to share information following the session or request further feedback). Please email london@therestartproject if you wish to opt out at any point.
