Are you keen to break into the publishing industry but not sure where to start? Whether you’re a recent graduate, career changer or simply curious about what roles exist beyond 'editor', this webinar is aimed at you.

Join me, Eleanor Pilcher – award-winning freelance marketing consultant, founder of Market Your Marketing on Substack, co-host of Why You're Reading, content creator and author with over a decade of experience in marketing and publicity – for a practical and honest session exploring freelancing in publishing.

Panel discussion & Q&A: Freelancing in Publishing (1 hour)

The first part of the event will feature a panel of working freelancers across different areas of publishing.

• Freelancers to be announced.

They’ll share their routes into freelancing, how they find work, what income stability really looks like, skills that matter, and the realities of working independently.

Attendees will have the chance to submit questions throughout and we'll spend at least 20 minutes answering them.

Presentation: How to Go Freelance (30 minutes)

After the panel, I’ll be giving a topline walkthrough covering everything from deciding if freelancing is right for you to setting rates, finding clients, contracts, tax basics, portfolios and confidence-building strategies.

This part of the session is ideal whether you plan to freelance immediately or simply want to understand the landscape.

Who this webinar is for:

Anyone looking to enter the UK publishing industry or curious about freelancing as an alternative career route. International attendees interested in publishing more broadly are welcome but we will be focusing on UK. No prior experience required. Entirely anonymous for those currently in careers.

Where to watch:

The webinar is hosted via Zoom with a maximum of 100 attendees. Cameras and microphones will remain off, though the Q&A/Chat function will be open for questions. You may also submit questions in advance during the week before the event.
