How to get more craft sales online

A workshop programme with Patricia van den Akker – Director of The Design Trust

Do you want to sell your crafts online but feel overwhelmed by what’s involved and you don’t really know where to start?
Maybe you have a website or Etsy shop already, but you want to get more sales as it’s not really working right now?
Do you need to improve your website and online sales with better images, texts and branding? Do you need to get more visitors and ultimately sales?

This series of three workshops is for you!

In 3 interlinked sessions Patricia will take you step-by-step from the different online selling options to how to improve your website or online shop, from branding your site to attracting the right clients for you and stand out from the competition, to driving traffic and turning interest into sales.

At the end of each session you will get practical homework exercises to put your new knowledge and skills immediately to use, and to get professional feedback and accountability too at the next session.

It’s the perfect time of the year to do this workshop series, so that you will be more ready for the busy Christmas season and can reap the benefits straight away!


Workshop 1: An introduction to selling online and how to launch your own website or online shop in 9 steps. – Thursday 14 September from 1pm – 5pm

In this 1st session we will focus on laying the foundations for your online sales. Patricia will:

• Share with you 9 different ways of selling online, with all the pro and cons. And you will identify which options are best for you.
• Share with you the best ecommerce and website building software to create your own site or blog, or options to work with a developer or designer. This will help you to decide what the best platforms are for you.
• Explain the 9 steps to launch your own website or online shop going through the entire decision making and management process. From setting goals and a deadline, to branding and deciding what products to sell, to costing and pricing your work correctly, to getting the best images and writing text, to how to send your items and promote you site. You will create your own action plan to help you turn your ideas into launching your own site soon.
• At the end of this session you will get practical homework to prepare yourself for the next session, including your action launch plan and doing a brand competitor analysis.



Biography
Patricia van den Akker is a well-known creative business adviser, trainer and coach, and the Director of The Design Trust, the online business school for designers and makers. For more than 15 years she has worked with 1,000s creative professionals, in particular in craft and design. She is especially focused on creative business development, and supporting creatives to make a better living.
She is known for her inspiring, practical and thought-provoking workshops that will help you to get into action and make improvements in your own creative business.
She is a regular speaker at events and workshops across the UK, including the New Designers exhibition in London, the Small is Beautiful conference in Scotland, and she was the business adviser for the Etsy Resolution programme in 2016 working with over 5,000 new Etsy sellers online. Since 2012 she has written a regular business column for Crafts Magazine, called ‘The Design Doctor’.
