How to grow mushrooms at home – an introduction
Sun 26 March 2017, 11:00 – 14:00 BST
Growing mushrooms is fascinating and fun! It’s also a good way of getting something organic and healthy into your diet. The trick to doing this well is to start thinking like a mushroom. By the end of this session you’ll understand more about mushrooms and other fungi and their role in nature, which will help you understand what the ones you try to grow really need. If you don't know the difference between your spores and your spawn this is a good place to start!
In this workshop we'll be doing a practical demonstration of two different methods - building a wood chip bed and inoculating logs. The logs we prepare can be taken away to fruit at home, although they're quite bulky so not suitable for taking on your bike! One log is included in the cost of the course. We'll also be covering cloning wild mushrooms using cardboard and growing mushrooms on straw or coffee grounds in buckets.
Cost: £20 or £12 for unwaged. One mushroom log is included in the cost, additional ones are £5 each.
