Line managers should always act promptly to deal with any misconduct. Failure to communicate to an employee that something that they have done is unacceptable may lead the employee assuming that their conduct is satisfactory. This will make it much more difficult for the manager and HR to deal effectively with the problem behaviour, which may get worse, at a later time.
