How to Help Your Clients Set Healthy Boundaries during the Holiday Season
Overview
Although the holiday season is billed as a time to relax and enjoy ourselves, to see friends and family and to take a break from day-to-day challenges, for many people can it feel quite the opposite.
Each year the preparations seem to start earlier, the cost of everything seems higher and many of the anxious situations we had to navigate last year seem to be lying in wait for us yet again. Expectations can be high—achieving all the ends-of-year goals at work, all the excitement of school parties and concerts, endless shopping, and hosting family meals.
Instead of being restful, the holidays can be a stressful time—with everything resting on our shoulders and simply too much to deal with. It's possible to feel isolated and outside of the general enthusiasm—to feel over-stretched, taken for granted and anxious.
In the workshop we'll investigate how we can put ourselves back in the driver’s seat for our holiday experience. We’ll look at how we can establish boundaries that enable us to function in a positive way, without feelings of guilt and resentment. Healthy boundaries can enhance the holiday experience for ourselves and for those we are spending it with. By applying some fundamental principles of self-compassion—self-kindness, common humanity and mindfulness—we’ll explore the ways in which we can enjoy the holidays instead of suffering them.
Participants will receive a PDF with quotes and exercises they can download
