Objectives

Explore the meaning of cultural stigmas and the impact of 'race', ethnicity, and spirituality on experiences of emotional distress
Examine the impact of cultural, professional, institutional, structural, and historical victimisation and discrimination on cultural stigmas
Explore some of the risks and challenges associated with negative cultural attitudes towards adult mental illness and neurodiversity in children
Examine the role of cultural competence in developing strategies to overcome racial stereotyping and stigmas in mental health provision
Examine personal, cultural, professional, and organisational barriers to children and their families accessing mental health support
Identify strategies to improve safeguarding and overcome stigmatising mental distress among Black and minority ethnic communities
