The training is currently being hosted and co-ordinated online by Darlington Council. However, overseas workers and individuals under 20 years of age are unable to access this training due to funding restrictions. To enable staff who are under 20 years old or working from overseas to access the training, workshops are being hosted by CDDFT.

Criteria for attending a workshop

Prior to booking staff onto a workshop, staff must fulfil the following criteria:

1. Working in a Darlington care home

2. Working in the role of nurse, senior carer, carer, chef or kitchen assistant

3. Working from overseas or under 20 years old

The workshop covers:

- What is undernutrition

- How to identify undernutrition including:

- using ‘MUST’ to determine risk of undernutrition

- how to determine height from ulna

- how to determine weight change from mid upper arm circumference (MUAC)

- How to treat undernutrition, including

- Food based treatments (nourishing snacks & drinks, fortified diets)

- Appropriate use and monitoring of prescribed nutritional supplements

- Appropriate referral to a dietitian

- The importance of hydration

- Nutrition related documentation, including:

- The development and reviewing of nutrition care plans

- Good practice guidance for monitoring food and fluid intakes
