Event description

Description

Most of us have to pitch to potential clients, or make a presentation to our own colleagues. Maybe you have to appeal in court? Unfortunately many people let themselves down. The key reason for this is that most people lack the confidence to reassure their 'audience' that they are up to the job. Bridget will introduce participants to some of the basic skills needed to look and sound more confident.

CPD 3 hours

Registration and coffee 9.30am

PEAT Outcome - professional communication

OBJECTIVES

Bridget will introduce to you some techniques that will be helpful if you have to make a presentation or speak in court. She will be looking at the following areas:

  • How to cope with anxiety - suggested exercises
  • How to look confident
  • How to sound more assured

There will be an element of participation as speaking in public is a physical act and it is only be actually trying our Bridget`s techniques that you will really understand what is required.

PARTICIPANTS

This seminar will be useful to anyone who has to stand up and speak in public. If you are aware that people struggle to hear you, your voice fades away, or you feel as if you run out of breath then I can help you. If public speaking has always filled you with dread and you realise that you are not representing your organisation or client with the required style or gravitas then this is the seminar for you.

SPEAKER

The speaker is Bridget McCann. Due to her extensive experience working with lawyers, Bridget has devised training days aimed at those working in the law, most specifically those who have to speak in some capacity in court. From working with law firms, the Devils at the Faculty of Advocates, and from running advocacy workshops at the Post Graduate School of Law at Strathclyde University and at the Legal Services Agency, she has come to understand the specific skills required for court work. She is the co-author of the Civil Advocacy Skills Book which is recommended reading for anyone who has to appear in court.
