This beginner's course will teach you the basics of writing, filming and editing so you can create your own comedy video to share on social media.

Perhaps you've got some experience making videos but want to give them that funny edge? Maybe you're a comedian who just doesn't have a clue how to use a camera? Or maybe you just need that extra bit of information to unlock the potential of the videos you're already making? Either way, this course talks you through every step from start to finish.

Your teachers are viral comedy video creator and award-winning Comedian Anna Morris and sitcom Editor, Actor and Writer Sam Underwood. Anna and Sam joined creative forces after meeting on Channel 4's Lee and Dean. Examples of our work below!

Course length: One 3.5 hour session (including tea break) on Zoom.

Experience: None necessary!

Software: We'll be teaching editing techniques that are applicable to most editing software but for accessibility, we will be using HitFilm a free and multi-platform NLE (Non-Linear Editor. Don't worry - That's just a fancy term for editing software!). You don't need to have this running during the session.

We'll cover:

• What makes a video go viral
• Finding your style: the different types of comedy videos.
• Video duration and viewer attention spans.
• The best ways to film your video: tools, lighting, sound.
• Choosing strong titles, tag lines and hashtags.
• Which platforms suit your content and how to use them.
• The best times and days to upload your content for maximum impact.
• Music licences and audio libraries.
• Basics of editing (as above, we'll be using HitFilm).
• Adding music and graphics.
• Uploading your film and sharing your work!

TEACHER BIOGS

Anna Morris is an award winning comedy actor and writer. She’s the creator of multiple viral comedy videos and web series. As an actor she’s starred in Ch4’s Lee and Dean, BBC’s The First Team, Outnumbered, Count Arthur Strong and ITV’s Bad Bridesmaid. She’s written five one-woman comedy shows and toured the UK and Australia.

Sam Underwood is a comedy Actor, Editor, Writer and Filmmaker. He co-wrote and starred in both series of Channel 4's Lee and Dean, which he also Associate Produced and Edited. He co-runs Bingo Films (Lee and Dean, Flavours) and his own filmmaking company Underwood Films.
