Event description

Description

Are you someone who really cares about other people?

Do you look around and see problems in your community and across the planet that you long to solve?

Have you always wanted to make a difference in the world but didn't know how to start?

If so we can help. We are The Human Hive - a global collective of active humans who work WITH not FOR each other. We help people become effective change makers so they can stop dreaming about making a difference and start taking action. We believe everyone should be empowered and supported to build the world they want to see and that the answer to any problem is already out there in the people around you. For us making a difference is more than just volunteering - it means supporting people going through life's challenges to get back on their feet again by standing side by side with them to create solutions together.

We've created a simple 6 part framework to help you break down large problems into manageable pieces and a 3 day training to help you get started.

DAY ONE Monday 1 April: Building You - understand yourself so you can work well with others.

  • become a safe space for others
  • recognise and regulate overwhelm and trauma
  • communicate effectively under pressure
  • become a resilient and effective self manager

DAY TWO Tuesday 2 April: Building Resources - turn your skills into inclusive activities.

  • identify what you do best and turn it into an activity
  • build activities that are inclusive, welcoming and safe
  • create lesson plans and facilitator notes
  • collaborate with other participants to create full schemes of work
  • put an action plan in place for delivery

DAY THREE Saturday 6 April: Building Community - take your new activities out for a test drive in the community.

  • learn to set up your own event
  • run your activities with support from our team
  • complete a full debrief and evaluation of the experience

You'll meet amazing, inspiring people, learn lots of new skills and brush up on ones you'd forgotten you already had. Here's what people are saying about our training.

We want to empower as many people as possible to join our movement so we are offering the entire three day training for £150 - that's half the price of one day when we train within organisations.

Team Ticket - but if you have 3 friends who want to join you, that price goes down to £75 per person - £300 for 4 people.

If you have previously taken Day 1 training elsewhere, drop us a line at darren@thehumanhive.org and we'll set you up with a code to unlock a special ticket for Days 2 and 3 only.

We only run these public trainings 3 times a year in different places around the country, so join us now in Brighton and make 2019 the year you start to BE the Difference in the life others.

About Us

We are Darren Abrahams and Kate McAllister. We met in the summer of 2015 to offer some assistance to the thousands of refugees arriving in Europe. We spent 2016 teaching in the Calais refugee camp known as the Jungle, converting a double decker bus into a mobile school and developing a unique education system marrying our complementary skills as a teacher and trauma therapist to address the incredibly diverse needs of the people we met there. In 2017 we formed Crisis Classroom in order to take what we had learned to other places that needed emergency education and set about developing a sustainable, scalable solution that could be used and adapted when the crisis has passed but ongoing support and education are still essential. The Human Hive is the community we are building to support that work.
