Event description
This event will highlight the issues and impact of racial biases in AI/ML algorithms and discuss what we can do to mitigate against this.

About this Event

We are delighted to welcome back Andrew Sivaneson as speaker at this event . Andrew previously shared his journey upskilling into Data Science and is returning to talk openly around racial inclusivity best practice. He will start with observations on where the industry is for BAME currently and commenting on some recent high profile race related controversies within AI and ML, before addressing the downsides of white-centric AI and concluding with suggestions on what we can all do to improve racial inclusivity and equality in teams and products.

We are privileged that, Bunmi Durowoju will be joining us to continue the discussion. Bunmi has been recognised as top 100 most influential leaders in tech and sits on the woman@microsoft board, championing under-represented groups . A world class speaker, Bunmi brings remarkable energy and brilliant insight, replacing what can be uncomfortable and difficult conversations with open and curious discussion. As humans we can exhibit multiple types of bias and many are unconscious and without malice and Bunmi will share examples that highlight the impact of these biases to data sets and the effect they have on outputs when fed into algorithms and models and explore steps we can take to mitigate these biases.

We hope that attendees at this event will leave with a fresh insight into this all-important subject and realise that it is ok to make a mistake if we acknowledge, learn from it and move on. The important thing is to be having these conversations and trying to improve the situation.
