Description

Retail Gift Aid enables charities to raise more money from items donated to them for sale in a charity shop. It extends Gift Aid, originally intended for financial donations, to donated items.

Barry Gower, MD of Gift Aid consultancy GAIN, presents this half-day course giving practical advice on how to make the most of Retail Gift Aid. With extensive experience of Gift Aid he explains what steps charities must take in order to comply with legal requirements.


What this course covers

Session 1 - Introduction and brief overview Gift Aid

• Overview of Gift Aid.
• What is a Charity Shop - a closer look
• 0% VAT (Donated goods) ;
• 80% mandatory non-domestic rate relief;
• Charity does not own Gift Aid items


Session 2 - Convertor of Donated Goods to Cash

• Retained Ownership, Donating the cash, not the goods
• Charity or Trading arm acts as agent – legal arrangement so commission required
• Requirement of confirmation to donate


Session 3 - Gift Aid in Charity Shop Part 1

• All normal Gift Aid requirements , especially complete Gift Aid Declaration
• Three Methods –Standard, Method A, Method B
• Standard, Goods sold, donor informed. If no response in 21 days, net amount taken as Gift Aid donation
• Method A, Method B. Donor agrees first £100 (Method A) (£1000 (Method B)) no reference to donor.
• Keeping Records


Session 4 - Gift Aid in Charity Shop Part 2

• Knowledge of Retail Gift Aid
• Staff to be trained in retail Gift Aid ; Brochures/ signs/literature available
• Enhanced Record Keeping


Session 5 Administration of Gift Aid in Charity Shop

• Receipt of Goods Flow Diagram – Script, Sign up/Login-in
• Sale of Goods - Mark up/tagging – identification of sold – till process
• Rag and Gift Aid
