About this event

Business • Finance

Tim Harford is an economist best known for his remarkable ability to explain and communicate complex economic data in ways that are compelling and entertaining. As the FT’s Undercover Economist and host of BBC Radio 4's More or Less' he explains – and sometimes debunks – the numbers and statistics used in political debate, the news and everyday life.

Harford's principal argument is that numbers have the power to change the world for the better. He believes that good statistics help us see more clearly. Good statistics are like a telescope for an astronomer, a microscope for a bacteriologist, or an X-ray for a radiologist. If we are willing to let them, good statistics help us see the world around us – and ourselves – in ways that we would not be able to see normally.

This spring, Harford comes to Intelligence Squared at venues across the UK to help us make sense of the world through numbers. He will take us deep into the world of disinformation and obfuscation, bad research and misplaced motivation to discover those jewels of data and analysis that make communicating with numbers worthwhile.

Join us live and ask Tim your questions about how the world adds up.
