How to make your Victorian Home More Energy Efficient
Event Information
About this Event
Victorian and older homes are notoriously hard to make energy efficient. This event, hosted by the Community Energy Cooperative Energise Sussex Coast, brings together 4 residents who have significantly improved the energy efficiency of their homes. Our panel will talk about what they did and how they achieved it. The measures range from the easily accessible low cost measures right through to large scale retrofit.
During this event you will hear presentations and see photos of the panellists' homes. There will then be a Q&A where you will have the opportunity to ask your questions to the panel.
Meet the panellists
Richard Watson
Richard is the Founder and Chief Executive of Energise Sussex Coast. Richard is a Director of the solar installation Community Energy Coop Energise South. He is also a Director of Community Energy South and the Schools Energy Co-op. Richard has provided local residents with energy advice over the past 9 years and has a wealth of knowledge of how to save energy and money in the home.
Ken Davis
Ken aimed to create an as 'near to zero energy' 2 bedroomed house as practical from a dilapidated late Victorian former fish shop with small flat over. And to do so in a way which also creates a small piece of architecture both with a presence in the street scene and with unexpected interest internally.
Catherine Taylor
Catherine bought her house in a poor state of repair. Catherine's aim was to get the house as near to carbon neutral as she could. She prioritised insulating her home as much as possible - adding insulation to the roof space, the back of the house and under the floors and upgrading the windows to double glazed alumunium units. It was a big project and Catherine has learnt a lot that she's keen to share.
Peter Varley
Peter has tackled two energy efficient retro fit projects with older properties in Hastings old town. He has installed energy efficiency technologies including air source heat pumps, Norwegian underfloor heating, LED lighting, solar panels and Swedish wood burners.
Who is this event suitable for?
This event is suitable for any residents looking to make their home more energy efficient. It's an informal session with lots of time to ask questions. We aim for you to leave the event with lots of practical ideas for your own home.
